Hitler isn’t dead, he’s alive and well and living in Israel and his name is Netanyahu

I’m leaving this comment up, John, because I understand your frustration. But as bad as Netanyahu (and for that matter Trump) is, and despite the fascistic behaviors they and their associates demonstrate, it crosses a line to equate them with Hitler. It’s just not productive. With this I want to caution everyone against making statements like that. Normally I take statements like this down because they just don’t advance the conversation and serve to dilute and trivialize the enormity and uniqueness of the Holocaust. In this case I’m leaving it up because it helps me to make this precise point. But this is also not intended to diminish the damage Netanyahu has caused and continues to cause, to Israelis and Arabs alike.

Who would you suggest to lead Israel at this time?

A “unity” government that includes the widest possible spectrum of political views. Not easy, but the one prior to this one did just that and it was a welcome break, even though one of the figures who shared the prime minister position is a solid right winger - Naftali Bennett. I’m not his biggest fan but he surprised me with his integrity and ability to reach across the aisle. There was even an Arab party involved in this arrangement. So that’s what I’d love to see again.

Thank you so much, Jean. Your words are so on point. It definitely makes a difference when you keep speaking out, even if your targeted audience may not be hearing you yet. You are keeping your voice in shape for that time when they will. And in the meantime, you are making sure that your own moral sensibilities aren't dulled.
