Love this diversionary piece! (With the appropriate political commentary ) Enjoyed all the footnotes as well. Particularly the Capt. Kangaroo reference. (Forgot about that racially insensitive part) You may have missed the Mr. GREENjeans connection to the Eagles! But as a diehard Giant fan we could never under any circumstances root for the Eagles! Enjoy the game!
Thanks, Scott. The Captain was my hero - especially since right after his show was over I would watch Romper Room, woth its host, Miss Jean, looking into our homes through her "Magic Mirror." Talk about Big Brother watching us! https://fergysun2.wordpress.com/2021/01/01/miss-jeans-magic-mirror/
Rabbi—I very much appreciate your scholarship here. It is convincing to a point. What point is that? I am a NY (football) Giants fan (yes I live in southern Mexico but that is hardly relevant, though the Eagle in Mexico is very relevant, though that is for another day). As a Giants fan, I can’t, in all good conscience choose the Eagles. I only wish the best for Saquon (though not on Sunday). And choosing against Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes? That makes no sense at all. ¡Que disfrutes el partido!
It’s not easy as a Bostonian ever to root for Philly. The Eagles as I recall were the only team to beat the Pats in the Super Bowl during their dynasty, after all. 😉
I have been a Washington fan my whole life, so I hope the Eagles lose by about 50, Torah references aside.
However, living in Detroit, I have a Torah theory as to why the Lions have been garbage since Bobby Lane. Gen 12:3, copied translation from Sefaria just to be easy:
And I shall bless those who bless you, and those who curse you shall I curse
Who owns the Lions? The descendants of none other than Henry Ford. QED

Never thought about Romper Room that way!

By grounding your bookmaking on passing references to the Book, you’ve given new meaning to synagogues named Bet Torah. Who knew!
Love it! And since we're egalitarian,.we can always have Lady Luck lead the prayers!

The Giants, you mean. Yes, they ruined that perfect season.

Good point! I think there are no such issues with ownership of these two teams.
This is *chef's kiss* (נשיקת טבח)
You crazy! Hope the best team wins. I only watch the stupid bowl for the snacks and the commercials.
To be honest, I’m just trying to protect the legacy of the century’s best dynasty- the Patriots
