One of my core beliefs is that when someone shows me courtesy, like holding the door or letting me enter a lane of traffic, I always pay this courtesy forward to someone else.
Thank you Rabbi I am encouraged and uplifted by your words. I am in Australia 🇦🇺 we are having a National day of mourning on Dec 21
I am not sure what will happen on our streets with the protests and violence we have seen with far right. I live near Melbourne where there has been horrible antisemetic attacks on synagoges. I am worried more innocents will be hurt. I am taking your advice to be kind and celebrate my life.
Long before the movie Pay it Forward, I had always said "Pass it on". As + and - said those are the 2 helpful gestures that I most often appreciate and pass on.
I am, more often, the recipient of someone's kindness. I think that they think that I am old and frail. Old, I have to admit, in years, that I am. I really don't see myself as frail; but, even so it feels good when someone offers to help me put the big bag of cat food in my truck, or when I injured my foot and couldn't get up a high curb and a young man stopped and helped me.
Due to family issues my son had custody of his daughter for some time. Due to his work schedule it was difficult for him to always get her to school on time and pick her up in time for her soccer practice. He asked me if I could do it. I was more than happy to do so as I seldom got to visit with her and I also saw it as a "pass it on" moment. I was so glad that I could help him. :-)
Little Matilda was about the same age and tears just started flowing when I saw that her life had ended. I felt the grief even though she wasn't my grand child. If I am feeling this sad it must be almost unbearable for her family.
I totally agree that we must persevere and do good and help whenever we can. We never know when that act of kindness brings some light into someone's life.

Thnk you, Marian. Have courage. This event may have awakened your political leadership tp the dangers that they have neglected. We can only hope.
