Empathy can not be felt when a person believes they are superior to others. The Christian white nationalists believe that if you do not believe the same as them or look like them, you are an inferior race; thus, they are not able to have any empathy for anyone outside of their group. Trump proves this and has always inspired violence against anyone who does not agree with him or obey his wishes! Empathetic people do not ever wish harm to anyone, even animals! We must stop electing leaders who are not empathetic, and we must call out when they show they are not!
I would just like to mention your caption on the two ducks swimming on the creek. You mentioned that the Mallard must be a DEI addition. They are both ducks, Mallards. A married couple in the traditional style. One beautifully painted male with his lovely unadorned wife. My empathy is worm very thin but still in tact. Thanks for chiming in this morning. Yes, I remember so much from this entry. It is lovely. What amazes me however, watching this all play out from overseas, is how much attention the murder of this man has taken up the oxygen since it happened. It seems everybody has to give his/her two-cents worth, 24 hours daily. I´ve never seen this with school and other mass murders, mostly committed by white, more often than not right-wing extremists., those who followed this man´s ideas. It is exasperating. And now this individual is receiving, posthume, the citizens medal of honor. Just for being shot? and for helping our country to be taken over by a lunatic and his lunatic appointees who are ruining our country? Nuts to that. It has nothing to do with empathy. My empathy is with my poor countrymen, those who fight for truth and justice and - first hand - watch all of our systems become rancid through lies and incompetence. Thanks but no thanks.
I hear you. The right has co-opted the media agenda and sucked up all the oxygen as you say, but the Epstein case and economic bad news will not go away. This news cycle will not have the legs that it seems to have right now. The empathy issue transcends one person as well. It has become a genuine culture war issue, with religious overtones, and does need to be fleshed out.

My first reaction remains, "thoughts and prayers." That is the now tiresome near-meme that Second Amendment absolutists say every time innocent children and young adults are murdered by people who had no right to own a killing machine. But this time, I'm using it with some sincerity. Thoughts and prayers for Charlie Kirk's wife and young children. Because it seems to be a reasonable thing to say if we lack the political will to put the most minimal gun control into play.
I prefer the word "caring" to "empathy." We must care about each other! I suspect "empathy," thanks to people like Musk, has become loaded.
