Thank you for clarity you have brought to this extremely complex issue, Rabbi Hammerman. Alone the fact that Mamdani defeated Trumpian corruption and woman abuser in the person of Cuomo, made me cheer his victory. Like in Susan`s comment below, I remember my (very bigoted) father commenting the same on Kennedy´s win back in ´60. The Pope is going to control America (and so few, if any, protested Opus Dei`s role in shaping "Projekt 2025"or even knew about it!).

I only learned more about Opus Dei recently. I only knew that Amy Barett supposedly was a member of the Catholic organization or off shoot of Catholicism. I thought, oh great, another extremist religious group.

Then I came across andra watkins substack and learned just how they operate. I recently bought the book OPUS by Gareth Gore. I haven't started reading it yet; but, looked to see what it said about Project 2025. It pretty much just said that Project 2025 endorsed Opus Dei's founder.

If you are interested this is a link for the conversation Andra had with Gareth Gore:

It did go on to say that Pope Francis told them they needed to change and the task was pretty much accomplished and Opus was supposed to sign the changes; but, Pope Francis died and they scrapped the changes.

I read the book, it is scary. Thank you for the link! This article, appearing over a year ago in the Guardian (with amendments after a response from OD) tells a lot. Our dear VP became a Roman Catholic (as are the newest members of the Supreme Court) in 2019. I wonder why....?

Here is a link to another article that talks about JD Vance and Opus Dei.

I went back to the site that I posted about Pope Leo and the chart was GONE. I also noticed that there was a small yellow print area that said Opus Dei. When I clicked that it took me to several articles about Argentina.

That Guardian article : One thing that really caught my attention was the need to do things in increments.

Another was in how to frame your opposition to something. I kept seeing, as though it was a common form of abortion, of babies being aborted at full size and dumbo trump's saying babies were being aborted after birth.

For years have heard the conspiracies re the Jesuits and nary a mention of Opus Dei.

Thank you - very revealing! and Argentina. That mysterious money transfer T. made recently. All could tie in. And yes, Dumbo T. always talking about after-birh abortions 🤣 ... how on earth does he get away with such nonsense? I guess the answer is in the mentality of the people who voted him in 🤪.

That interview raised so many questions. I saw this article re Leo and Opus Dei

There also is a chart naming people associated with Opus Dei

https://cathcon.blogspot.com/2025/05/pope-leo-begins-to-heal-relationship.html?spref=tw

I had forgotten about Pope Francis being in Argentina. At one time he praised Opus Dei and then changed direction. Why? Perhaps because of the trafficking of the young girls and the Court case?

Lots of questions; but, too tired to pursue anymore tonight. Will read the Guardian article tomorrow.

Good morning Rabbi,

I'm sure you remember all the fuss that was made when a Catholic, JFK, was elected. The Pope is going to control America, etc.

Just yesterday on my local Next Door a big fuss is going on that the Muslims will be taking over America. and this guy is only a mayor!

I certainly would not support his statements that the troubles in the world are due to Israel or the Jews. That is just plain stupid and worse yet dangerous. Alas, it also isn't anything new.

I read an article, if I come across it again I will post it, that he is surrounding himself with professional, positively motivated people. That is a wise decision because he really is new to all of this. He has got to be a step up to the last crooked mayor and he at least is opposed to trump's craziness.

Claudia has made some very good points!

Holy bloomers!!! Honestly, Call me naive, but I honestly did not realize the anxiety that you are expressing in this morning’s essay. I, of course understand the historical unease that New York Jews must feel having a Muslim elected the Mayor of their home city, but the big picture is, well, too damn big to “take to the streets” protesting this new Mayor, because he is different! Give him a chance. He’s young, and SMART, and at least needs a chance to establish his cabinet! To show his colors, to start mayoring the whole city. Our BIG problem right now is not Mamdani! IT IS DONALD TRUMP! A sworn bigot and hater. And he’s going to zero in on NYC like white on rice! He’s the one NY Jews need to be anxting over, not your new, young Muslim Mayor. Please, give him a chance! (By the way, your essay and this anxiety could be the caboose to your upcoming Zoom class.) yours, C.

It has occurred to me, this early, can’t sleep anymore, that it may have read like a lecture to you! I didn’t mean it to be. It was a lecture to, well, to everyone! Not you specifically. Just thinking out loud with written words. Anyway, after a trip to my regional food bank yesterday to drop off a check, I’m a biggly bit depressed. I worry about the poor.

Same here Claudia. I haven't checked yet this morning; but, last I saw trump is appealing the order that he release the funds for SNAP.

My small, Republican county voted 10,000 to 6,000 against the CA 50 bill; yet, have probably 15 to 20 different food closets opened up in addition to the ones that are already established.

Denying food to anyone, especially the poor, is damning evidence that this administration is doomed.
